Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to reveal my kitchen progress. My cabinets are finally up! There were a number of speed bumps along the way, but we did it! Actually, it was mostly Sam. Among other things, some of the cabinet pulls broke and the prep took forever. Halfway through hanging them, we got a stomach virus, which delayed the process further haha.
I'm thinking of doing a special post on how to paint cabinets, but I'd rather not relive it. Owning a home is a huge responsibility! And what seems like a small project can snowball into a big job. It's really a learning process when it comes to finding out what you can actually do and what to leave to the professionals. This is one job I wish I'd paid someone to do. But you live and you learn.
I decided on Frosted Silver by Behr for the cabinet color. You can also find the pulls I used here. The runner is from TJ Maxx. I got it for TWELVE DOLLARS a few years ago. We are going to eventually replace the linoleum with hardwood, but for now, a runner is effective in distracting from the mismatched brown floors.
We also finally got our new gas stove and stainless steel dishwasher! Now everything is stainless steel except for our fridge. That's the last thing I need to replace before the makeover is complete (besides the floors). And then we will start tiling and adding a hood vent.
We decided on quartz countertops from LG. Our color is called Rococo. I really wanted the look of marble, but not the maintenance. Marble is a soft stone that stains very easily. With all the curries I make, I wasn't willing to risk damaging a very expensive stone. Quartz is difficult to stain or scratch, and it's manmade (though it's 97% stone) so there are less imperfections like granite.
I love a good before and after, so here's a nice side by side for you! Our old green countertops and orangey cabinets have come a long way!
So excited about the progress! Now I can enjoy cooking that much more.
