When I was a kid, my health freak mom used to take me to the health food store, "Rainbow Blossom," to grocery shop, and I always remember getting to have an Orange Dream soda from Blue Sky. I loved those things! That's a great way to bribe your kids into going to the grocery store with you. Note to future self. To this day, I remember the smell of that store, and seeing all the old hippie ladies with their short white hair dangling crystals over things. My childhood was... interesting. I didn't eat things like fruit roll-ups, I had fruit leather, which I'm still obsessed with. I complained to no end about not getting to have bologna or McDonalds or white bread, but in the end, I'm grateful that I was taught to eat healthy. Not that orange dream soda is "healthy," but it reminded me of learning to eat healthy foods. So when I saw the Blue Sky Ginger Ale at Publix, I had to have it. It's made with pure cane sugar, and it's incredible. I should get a sponsorship for this, haha.
This drink recipe uses the Blue Sky Ginger Ale, which is superior to all other ginger ale. It's just the right amount of spicy and it's not too sweet. Sam and I went to a bar the other night to meet up with friends and had a spicy tequila ginger drink that will knock your socks off! So of course, I had to try and replicate it. I got pretty dang close!
If you don't have pomegranate liqueur, you could use another flavor. Or a splash of pomegranate juice would be tasty, too.
SPICY POMEGRANATE MULE RECIPE
Ingredients for one drink.
2 ounces of tequila
a splash of pomegranate liqueur
a pinch of cayenne pepper (to taste)
juice of half a lime
salt and cayenne for the rim
lime slice for garnish
On a small plate, add a little cayenne and salt (or just salt). Rub a lime slice around the edge of a tall glass. Place the glass upside down in the cayenne salt mixture, coating the rim. Using a drink shaker, fill with ice, tequila, cayenne, lime juice and pomegranate liqueur. Shake. Pour into your glass. Top with ginger ale. Enjoy!
Let me know what you think of this one! It would be amazing to have this with tacos!
