The day I discovered pretzel bark, I was a goner. They carry the bark thins with pretzels at the grocery near my house, and there is a real internal struggle every single time I go to the store. I mean. Every. Single. Time. My brain can’t turn it off! So when I thought of making Sam’s favorite dessert, brownies, into my favorite candy, pretzel bark, it was like my universe exploded. These are the very best Pretzel Brownies sprinkled with sea salt and topped with pretzels.
Yea, we take chocolate pretty seriously around here. I have a secret candy drawer that only I know about in this house. Because let’s get real, sharing is tough. One of my pet peeves is sharing a bite of my food. I know, I’m a monster, but NO I WILL NOT GIVE YOU A BITE IT’S MINE.
I started out making this with ground pretzels in the batter, but they ended up soggy. So I eliminated them. The pretzels on the top are just right, but you can add walnuts for an extra crunch to the batter! For this recipe, I used a stand mixer, but use whatever you have! I used a one-legged handheld mixer for several months there when one of the little whisks broke, so you can truly do whatever you want. No rules!
Add flour and baking powder to a large mixing bowl. Mix those together.
Then you’ll need to melt the butter and sugar. Pour them over the chocolate to melt it. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the flour and mix. Add the egg and then mix again.
Now you’ll pour it all into a greased 8×8 pan, sprinkle with sea salt, press in your pretzels, and bake for about 35-40 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean. Voila! There you have it. Beautiful brownies inspired by pretzel bark and sprinkled with tasty sea salt.
- 1 cup flour
- 12 pretzels
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 1 stick salted butter
- 2 eggs, whisked
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Add the flour and baking powder to a mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon.
- Pour the chocolate chips into a large mixing bowl. Set aside. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sugar together, stirring to combine. Pour the hot butter mixture over the chocolate chips to melt, stirring until completely melted. Add the hot chocolate mixture to the flour and stir with an electric mixer until well combined. Add the whisked eggs to the mixture and mix again with an electric mixer.
- Grease an 8x8 baking pan and pour the brownie batter into the pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle sea salt on top evenly. Press the 12 pretzels into the top in 3 lines. Bake for 35-40 minutes. A cake tester probably won't come out clean because of all the chocolate, but mine baked perfectly after 37 minutes. Let the brownies cool for 30 minutes before cutting and serving.
